The Bealtaine Festival is the national festival celebrating creativity in older age and Ireland’s largest collaborative arts festival. Running from May 1-31 and co-ordinated by Age & Opportunity, the festival collaborates with local, regional, and national organisations to produce inspiring and innovative opportunities for older people to engage and participate in a whole range of arts events and experiences.

Festival of the Fires promises to ignite the summer festival season in the most spectacular fashion. With fires in all 32 counties lit in solidarity to the main event on the historic Hill of Uisneach in Westmeath, the May Bank Holiday weekend event is possibly going to be the only festival in Ireland that will be visible from space!

It’s that time of year again when Mayo County Council arts office is almost ready to embark on a month long programme of activity for Bealtaine 2011. This is the 16th year of Bealtaine, the national festival which celebrates creativity in older age – co-ordinated nationally by Age and Opportunity. Bealtaine aims to involve older people in the arts, through expression and active participation. It also encourages older people to engage as an experienced audience for all art forms.
